Rob Machete is a Los Angeles jungle and drum & bass DJ whose career grew out of the city’s early underground rave scene. Originally spinning hip-hop as DJ Rob G, he shifted toward the bass-heavy breakbeat sound coming out of England and adopted the Machete name in 1994 to reflect his sharp mixing and cutting style.
As DJ Machete, he helped build the Junglist Platoon crew and became a key figure behind RESPECT, the long-running Los Angeles drum and bass weekly launched in 1999. His career has included an Insomniac residency, a mention in URB Magazine’s NEXT 100 issue, dates on the KungFu-Knowledge Tour, performances across North America and abroad, and ongoing work as a RESPECT resident, radio host, talent booker, and producer.
